The weather cooperated, and the players were more than ready to enjoy three days of fun, fellowship, and hopefully good golf. Players enjoyed a par 3 contest on the front nine as part of their practice day. For Friday’s first round, the golfers were treated to a Chef Luis breakfast and calm sunny skies of better ball of partners. This format usually produces low scores and lots of eagles and birdies. Defending Champions Larry Morgan and Fletch Herrald came in with the low score of 61 for the day but the rest of the field of 18 teams were not far behind with scores of 62, 63, and several 64s. On Friday evening, the players enjoyed the members lounge for happy hour, stories of good or bad play, and another great Chef Luis meal—this time his famous Taco Bar.
After another strong breakfast the players were ready for Saturday’s format of both balls count. Increased pressure of not letting your partner down brought it all into perspective and the strong teams started to rise to the top. Only three teams could finish under par (216) for the tournament, and the rest of the field limped in for some much needed refreshments and lunch.
Flight winners: (left to right/ top to bottom) Marty White and Jeff Kulzer, Paul Miret and Robert Duchin, Ken Cross and Chris Carpenter
The three flight winners went out after lunch for a three-hole aggregate alternate shot playoff to determine the overall champion of the Mountain Harbour Member Guest. Holes 1,7, and 9 produced excellent shots and good play, and when the smoke cleared: Marty White and Jeff Kulzer birided the final hole to take the overall title.
Thank you to all the members and their guests for a wonderful time. A big shout out to our Superintendent Erik Clifton, Chef Luis & Food and Beverage Manager Bethany for taking such good care of us.
