The Mountain Harbour clubhouse was transformed into the Churchill Downs Racetrack Friday, complete with extravagant hats, mint juleps, beautiful flowers, wall décor with Derby embellishments, and, of course, horses to celebrate what is known as the most exciting two minutes in sports.
Sponsored by the Mountain Harbour Social Committee, the evening included a fabulous prime rib dinner with garlic mashed potatoes and Key Lime pie prepared by Chef Luis and served by Bethany Gonzalez. Plus, keeping in tradition, Val created awesome mint juleps using fresh mint from the Hayward’s garden.
“It truly was a derby party and a lot of fun,” said Nanci Hayward, who serves on the Social Committee. The bar was decorated with flowers from Hayward’s garden and Michael Hayward’s horse statues…..some glass, composite, and metal, along with beautiful bouquets, also from their garden.
The extravagant hats were beautifully designed and added the perfect flair in keeping the tradition of the Kentucky Derby. The committee also sponsored a contest with prizes for hats and outfits. Winners were selected by those in attendance who voted for their favorites.

Second place female: Becky Davis
Second place male: Chip Seymour
Winners received a gift certificate good at the Mountain Harbour Grill or Pro Shop.
Other participants donning fashionable hats and apparel included: Helen Seymour, Cathy Andrews, Nanci Hayward and Beth Hooker
“This was a wonderful night, and we look forward to more fun events in the future,” Nanci said.
